DETAIL
Design & EdTech AI Lab
A space for exploring AI in the context of design and education
Who are we?
DETAIL (Design & EdTech AI Lab) is a research laboratory at the Department of Information Studies and Librarianship, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. We connect the worlds of design, technology, and education, explore how artificial intelligence is changing the way we learn, work, and provide services, and we also create a space for students, researchers, and practitioners who want to experiment, collaborate, and seek new paths.
Our work is based on deep expertise in service and learning design, which we combine with an ethical approach and technological know-how. In this way, we help create functional and sustainable services, tools, and educational models for businesses, universities, libraries, and the non-profit sector.

Project period: 2/2025 - 12/2025
The aim of the project is to support peer2peer mentoring among students through technological tools. Two main innovations will be created: templates in Miro that visualize the mentoring process and facilitate match-making, and an AI chatbot that helps with tracking and evaluating progress. Both tools will work with the competency framework of the Information Services Design programme. The project will strengthen mutual learning among students, the development of key skills, and reflection on their own progress.

The aim of the project was to explore the potential and ways of supporting socially responsible work by public libraries with artificial intelligence – using qualitative research and design experiments with libraries and the public (e.g., an experiential workshop on the future social impacts of AI, internships for librarians with AI innovators and educators).
At DETAIL, we form an open community of students, researchers, and experts who together explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence in design, education, and services.
What do we offer?
- supervision of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral theses in our topics,
- the opportunity to participate in ongoing research and development projects,
- mentoring and facilities for independent experiments and AI prototypes,
- an open AI community for sharing and growth.
We help leaders and teams use AI meaningfully—to improve services, education, and decision-making processes.
What do we offer?
- collaboration on the development and testing of AI-driven solutions (internal tools, services, educational platforms),
- research partnerships – we examine the impact of AI on society, education, employment, and customer experience,
- design and facilitation of AI strategies in companies and institutions (workshops, prototyping, future scenarios),
- training, mentoring, and academic support – if you want to educate your own team or develop AI competencies.
Collaboration with us can take the form of a pilot project, research grant, custom development, or long-term partnership.
Would you like to discuss the possibilities of collaboration?

PhDr. Petr Škyřík, Ph.D.
e-mail: pskyrik@phil.muni.cz
Petr is interested in and fascinated by the explosive mix of information science, system dynamics, trend spotting, (social) innovations, technologies, information services, creativity, behavioral economics, and design thinking.

Mgr. Kateřina Švidrnochová
e-mail: katerina@svidrnochova.cz
Kateřina focuses on the use of AI in learning and service design. At KISK, she teaches courses on AI in practice and CORE AI Lab, and tutors the Elements of AI course. She is the coordinator of the DETAIL research laboratory. In her work, she combines design thinking, education, and a strategic approach to technology.

PhDr. Ladislava Zbiejczuk Suchá, Ph.D.
e-mail: sucha@phil.muni.cz

doc. RNDr. Michal Černý, Ph.D.
e-mail: mcerny@phil.muni.cz
Michal focuses primarily on research into digital competencies related to working with AI – whether directly on AI literacy or on the transformation of information literacy. He is interested in the transformation of educational content and forms in the context of the introduction of artificial intelligence into everyday life and its impact on working with information, the learning process, and attitudes toward technology. He is involved in training teachers at elementary and secondary schools.

PhDr. Pavla Vizváry, Ph.D. LL.M.
e-mail: kovarova@phil.muni.cz
Pavla focuses on the connection between information behavior, technology, and law. Many generative AI tools use user data, including data protected by law (copyright, personal data processing, etc.). Compliance, which has not yet been established, is further complicated by the level of human behavior or integrity and ethics. This is precisely what she focuses on in her research and, to some extent, in her courses at KISK, such as Information Behavior, Cybersecurity, Design and People, Legal Basis for Information Services, and Information Literacy.

Mgr. Roman Sellner Novotný
e-mail: rnovotny@phil.muni.cz
Roman is an assistant professor at the Department of Information Studies and Librarianship at Masaryk University in Brno, where he is the guarantor of the master's specialization Information Services Design. His research and teaching focus on service design, speculative design, and transitive design in relation to innovation in the public sector. He applies speculative design in mental health policies and policies addressing the future of an aging population and informal care.

Mgr. Tomáš Marek, Ph.D.
e-mail: tomas.marek@phil.muni.cz
Tomáš is a specialist at KISK. He has long been involved in the field of data visualization, which he teaches at Masaryk University and outside academia. He says of himself: "(...) I occasionally give lectures to anyone who doesn't want their graphs to be laughed at." He helps organize meetings of Czech data visualization experts called #datavismeetup. You can learn more about Tomáš in his portfolio or digital garden.

Mgr. et Mgr. Natálie Káčová
e-mail: nkacova@mail.muni.cz
Natálie works as a researcher and designer. She led the Knihovna.ai project, which explored and promoted the connection between social and technological innovations in public libraries. She enjoys lecturing on imagination related to AI and the future, the pitfalls of prevailing and presented imagination, and possible alternatives.

Mgr. Simona Kramosilová
e-mail: kramosilova@phil.muni.cz
Simona has long been involved in adult education. At KISK, she teaches courses such as Online Tutor Practicum, Learning Design, and courses focused on the use of virtual reality with an emphasis on online education and building online communities. She is a tutor for the distance learning program Design of Information Services. In her work, she combines learning design with technology and seeks ways to effectively use artificial intelligence for the development of learning. She is now involved in a research project focused on connecting AI and VR.
