Key Fields of Research
Research in the Informational and Library Science department in Brno is consistently interdisciplinary. We emphasize the collaboration of scientists from different fields - among the teachers and researchers. We can find information scientists, psychologists, educators, linguists, cartographers, experts in management theory, literary scholars, computer scientists, and other experts. The emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration allows us to address topics using non-traditional approaches with high expertise.
Research in the department is concentrated in three main areas: virtual reality education, technology in education and information literacy, and information service design.
Virtual reality education
A broad interdisciplinary team focuses primarily on the issue of education in collaborative immersive virtual reality, with specific attention to the topics of cartography and language learning. At the same time, they also focus on interactions, communications, socialization, and forms of interaction in virtual reality. At the same time, there is also an increasing focus on augmented and mixed reality topics.

Technology in education and information literacy
In the fields of technology in education, online education, and information literacy, we focus primarily on frontier research with the philosophy of information and pedagogy. We focus on practical topics (development of online courses, hyflex model, development of learning objects, games) and theoretical conceptualizations of selected phenomena. The group also focuses on practical aspects of working with information, such as visualization or identifying misinformation. Emphasis in this area is also placed on linking the work of the VR group with practical teaching. The group systematically focuses on applied research.

Information services design
The design of information services focuses mainly on speculative design, the use of design methods in library environments, transitive design, innovation or social services and innovation. Attention is also paid to topics such as inclusive design or accessibility. Researchers in this group focus on linking innovation with value aspects.
