About the course
Welcome to the Creative Work with Information course of the Department of Information Studies and Librarianship at Masaryk University.
Working creatively with information is a skill you can use in different areas of your working and study life. The course is designed to be hands-on, so the focus is on assignments that you submit and assess to other students throughout the semester. This doesn't mean that I've resigned myself to the theoretical part where you learn about creativity, learning or critical thinking. Even theoretical knowledge is important to a person.
In the practical part of the course, you try and practise the assignments. You submit the assignments to the IS submission room that belongs to the module. In addition, you have to evaluate the assignments of your classmates. We will use the new application in IS for this. All assignments are mandatory and due to peer assessment, no exceptions (other than serious illness or other emergencies) can be made to the submission deadlines. This part of the study is also reinforced by a final assignment in the form of a creative journal.
You can test the theoretical part of your studies in continuous quizzes. They are compulsory, but there is no minimum score. They are for you. Some of the questions may also appear in the final exam.
What to expect in the tests? We will ask for basic information from the study materials. Where external sources are in bold, it is the student's responsibility to review them as well. Please also watch all the embedded videos. Questions will also be constructed from these texts and videos.
Individual texts are constructed to show the whole topic, but also to refer to different approaches, articles and resources that relate to the topic of creativity. In the course we do not want to rewrite textbooks or books on creativity, but to give signposts to different approaches and resources that you can use. A video or an external article has the same commitment to the paper as a direct text from the web. If you find any errors or shortcomings in the course, we would be happy to hear about them.
The website will be available to you after the course so that you can refer back to it (and the materials from it) during or after the course. Data analysis tools are used in the course.
