Learning methods and creativity

The English writer Ian McEwan states, "The opposite of nihilism is creativity. A mood that invites change, a hunger for individual freedom that is now sweeping the Middle East. All of this resembles new possibilities rather than threats." Robert Greene argues that "creativity combines discipline and childlike spirit."

Creativity and learning are closely related - both presuppose a creative and free spirit, motivation, openness to going beyond one's limits and certainties, entering an environment with an uncertain outcome, and a willingness to accept failure or defeat - at least from time to time. Yet both mind-sets are essential for human beings. In this module, we will take you through some approaches to learning - from drilling to regular learning to group learning- then focus on two modern themes - creativity and its relationship to thinking and mindfulness.
