The Design Management & Leadership MasterClass is an exclusive lecture series hosted by the Department of Information and Library Studies, open to both Masaryk University students and the general public. In the Spring 2026 semester, we’re bringing you a range of design management topics that you can put into practice immediately whether you’re leading a team or working solo.

The entire program was developed in close collaboration with the Asociací UX, who served as our professional partner in shaping the course curriculum.

Cross-functional leadership is the ability to mobilize people within an organization who have different—or even no—motivations and often no reason to follow your lead. At the same time, design and research frequently operate on the edge of the system: without direct power, without a budget, and sometimes without a clearly defined mandate. Yet, they must initiate, coordinate, and occasionally rescue projects. This lecture will offer a framework for navigating influence, conflict, and decision-making in such environments, ensuring that collaboration is not just a coincidence, but a consciously managed process.
